Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction
We're looking forward to viewing Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction at the Whitney Museum in NY. It's the first ever show concentrating exclusively on O'Keeffe's abstractions throughout her long career, as opposed to other shows which have focused on particular subjects or comprehensive reviews of her lifetime's work. While O'Keeffe is well known for her flowers, animal bones and landscapes, she was also one of the earliest American artists (and notably a woman) that experimented with abstract art.
The exhibit features over 100 paintings, watercolors and sculptures. It will also include excerpts from the recently released huge collection of love letters between O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz and a selection of Stieglitz's photographs of O'Keeffe.
Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction will be at the Whitney Museum September 17, 2009 to January 17, 2010, then it moves to the Phillips Collection in Washington February 6 to May 9, 2010, finally it stops at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe May 28 to September 10, 2010.
