The Best and Worst Dressed of the SAG Awards

Did you tune in to watch the Screen Actors' Guild Awards last night? We missed the show, but caught the red carpet (the most important part, after all!) Our pick for best dressed goes to January Jones who shows that switching up your look can pay off when it's done the right way. Her covered, yet body-con dress is elegant and sexy at the same time. See more SAG Awards Best and Worst Looks on DailyMakeover.com.

Beach Week Day 1: St. Barth

We're in the middle of the snowiest winter in our lifetime (on the east coast, at least) so there's no better time to start our annual beach week. First up is the Hotel Saint-Barth Isle de France.

This boutique hotel is one of the chicest options on what is arguably the chicest island in all of the Caribbean. Room options include a simple garden or beach rooms, suites and the new 3-bedroom Flamands villas.
There's an on-site restaurant and a Molton Brown spa.

On Our Radar: Coachella

Armani Exchange Coachella

It may be 77 days away, but the new A|X Armani Exchange ads put Coachella on our minds. The legendary music festival that takes place near Palm Springs, California was the inspiration for the spring ad campaign. “The aesthetic of the A|X Spring 2011 Collection was conceived around casual but sophisticated style and the modern influence of season-less, festival-chic dressing. The emphasis was not on major seasonal shifts but instead on creating looks that possess an overall truthfulness,” said Kate Lanphear, Elle's style director who styled the ads. The photos were shot at the Empire Polo Fields, where the festival takes place.

Armani Exchange Coachella ads
This year's Coachella festival kicks off on April 15 with Kings of Leon, the Black Keys and ends on April 17 with headliners Duran Duran and Kayne West. Check out Coachella.com for more details.

Special Rates for the Palazzo and Venetian

Palazzo Suite

We had such a great time at the Palazzo for Anne's bachelorette that we're tempted to go back by the special Internet rates starting at only $129/night. Sure there are plenty of new places opening all the time in Vegas; but what we love most about the Palazzo and the Venetian is their location right in the middle of everything on the strip, the Canyon Ranch Spa, the over sized rooms and the great restaurants and clubs like Tao and Lavo on site. Book your room by January 31st and use the code EPOXJAN.

Jennifer Aniston's Favorite Vacation Spot

Jennifer Aniston in Allure
While the rest of the world was focusing on Jennifer Aniston dissing "The Rachel" haircut and her clip in bangs from the Allure shoot and accompanying article, we were most interested in hearing about her favorite vacation spot:
"It's Anguilla in the Caribbean. It's just very far, not that easy to hop on a plane and go. I love the ability to really relax. Even if I'm just sitting in my house, I still have work, whether it's dealing with a production company or future project. What I love is the ocean. I hear it and go calm. It allows you to truly refuel."
We're betting Aniston rents a private villa when she goes, though the Viceory Anguilla is pretty spectacular.

Enter to Win a Trip to the Birthplace of Kahlua in Mexico

veracruz, Mexico

When it comes time to reconnecting with friends and loved ones, more Americans prefer a night in, according to a recent survey sponsored by Kahlua. But if you're going to stay in, you have to have something good to talk about, along with good food and drinks. To help with the first part, Kahlua is sponsoring a Delicioso Night In sweepstakes where those who commit to staying in with friends one night a month are entered to win a one night trip to New York City prepared by chef Aaron Sanchez, immediately followed by a four day trip to Veracruz, Mexico, the birthplace of Kahlua.

espresso martini

When it comes to the menu for your night in, Sanchez suggests keeping it casual. He recommends inviting guests into the kitchen to help cook, serving a speciality cocktail with each course that features a liquor (that's a Kahlua espresso martini, above) and serving small bites of food that can be eaten with your fingers for a more playful meal.

Snuggie Loving at San Francisco Hotels

snuggie couple

On a 10 degree day, there's not much more appealing than snuggling on a sofa, which is why the Snuggie Love package caught our eye. Snuggie Love package is available at the Personality Hotels in San Francisco (including the Kensington, shown below) and includes:

• A Monkey Snuggie (unleash your inner animals)

The Snuggie Sutra book (think Kama Sutra in a Snuggie. Try positions such as “Sleeve it to Beaver,” “The Snorgy” and “Viewmaster.”)

• A 4-pack SKYY Flavored Vodka Mini Bottles (get the party started)

• Late check out (for more monkeying around)

Rates start at $159 a night.

On Our Radar: Hotel 1000 Seattle

Hotel 1000

Seattle is an exciting city and off our beaten path. The handful of visits we've had there were full of good food, good people, and plenty of new sights. Next time we visit, we'd like to stay at the Hotel 1000 a boutique hotel downtown which is in walking distance of galleries, restaurants and shopping like the Pike Place Market. In our favor, Hotel 1000 is more Frasier Crane than grunge; but you can get your music fix at the clubs within walking distance. The guest rooms have Asian and Northwestern accents, Thai linens and spa worthy bathrooms (the tubs fill from the ceiling!). And not surprisingly the rooms are stocked with techno-gadgets like electronic "do not disturb" signs, 40" LCD tv's,  and - our personal favorite- free WiFi. There's even a roof-top dog run and some serious virtual reality golf games. Rooms start at $215 per night.

Hotel 1000

On February 27th, Hotel 1000 is hosting a big Academy Award party. Tickets are $50 to $75 with proceeds benefiting Reel Grrls which "empowers young women from diverse communities to realize their power, talent and influence through media production."

An Evening with the Stars includes:
Appetizers
Cocktail on arrival
Two drink vouchers
A swag bag
Red carpet photo ops
Prizes for best celeb look-alike and best outfit
Hotel 1000 will provide live entertainment and a telecast of the Academy Awards
Party starts at 4:00 p.m.

How to Avoid Static Hair

Summer's pesky humidity which turns our hair to frizz gives way to an equally annoying problem in the winter: static hair. The dry air and cold temps are yet another challenge, especially if you're headed to Sundance or on a ski trip. Here are the best ways we've found to combat those flyaways:

1. Moisture is a natural static killer. Keep your hair well moisturized with a deep conditioner a couple of times each week. We use Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Mask (available at Sephora for $38) for soft, shiny hair. Also, don't wash your hair as often. Not only does washing dry your hair out, so does using the hair dryer.

2. Use a good leave-in conditioner. We like the Aveeno's products because they're easy to find, easy on the wallet, have spray-on application, and leave our hair silky.

3. Use a styling product like Morrocanoil (at salons and on line) which imparts shine and protects your hair from the dryer. That extra layer of product repels those pesky protons which make your hair stand on end.

4. Use a natural bristle brush which distributes the oils in your hair from root to end better than a synthetic brush. Like Morrocanoil, your own oils protect your hair.

5. The old-school method of getting rid of static by spraying your brush with hairspray doesn't work if there's alcohol in the hairspray. It'll only dry your hair out further and attract more static.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes

Our favorite stylist Christina Joy shares with us her picks for best-dressed in the Golden Globes. Let us know if you agree in the comments below.

There were many surprises on the red carpet at last night's Golden Globes. Some were hits, some were misses. So many of the ladies got the dress right but the hair and make-up were just completely wrong. Other ladies listened to the wrong advisers and went avant-garde when it didn't exactly fit their body or look. And a few were, as Goldilocks says, just right. Here are my picks for the best in show.

Best in show...for her sultry sophistication.
Mila Kunis in Vera Wang

Best in show...for her grace and poise.
Catherine Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhuillier

Best in show...for her glow.
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Best in show...for being comfortable in her own skin.
Annette Bening in Tom Ford

Best in show...for her sparkling smile.
Piper Perabo in Oscar de la Renta

Best in show...for her flawless skin head to toe...and because she can wear just about anything and look good.
Halle Belle in Nina Ricci

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine

If you haven't already, it's time to get familiar with Make Up For Ever- the beauty insider's pro line available at Sephora. Their makeup is designed to look good in front of the camera and is capable of creating lots of drama -just check out their lashes. We spend more time at their counter than any other in Sephora because the products are so cool.

Make Up For Ever's new Lab Shine is a series of 35 lip gloss colors in three different finishes (Diamond, Star, and Metal) which moisturize without being sticky. The Diamond collection is the sheerest with a sparkling finish, the Star collection has medium coverage with a mother-of-pearl finish and the Metal collection is the most intense with a chrome/mirror finish. Lab Shine has a small narrow brush that makes for easy application. We're hooked on its apricot scent which is sweet and tart - and different from anything else in our makeup drawer. With so many colors and finishes to choose from, you're sure to find one you love too.

Break out your triple axels and slachow jumps, because ice skating is back in style. Win Tory Burch Travel Socks

They say that necessity is the mother of invention, which is how these Tory Burch travel socks came to life. Last year, Tory tweeted from an airport, "Is it me or is everyone grossed out by having to go barefoot through airport security? Should I design a line of travel socks?" The answer was a resounding, "Y-E-S!" and thus the Tory Burch travel socks were created.

These aren't just any socks--they're super soft, with a no-slip sole in the shape of the Tory Burch logo and come in a pouch that clips on to the handle of your carry on, so they're always within easy reach as you go through security. We love these socks so much, they're also our go-to socks for those nights when we're cuddling on the sofa watching rom-coms because it's too cold to go out.

JSG is super excited to giveaway three pairs of the Tory Burch Travel Socks to three readers (one pair each)! To enter, either fan us on Facebook or sign up for our newsletter via the box below before January 14, 2011.
