My skin gets so dry and itchy in the winter, especially around my torso. It was particularly embarrassing this past weekend in Florida when I put my pasty body into a bikini. I’ll try anything I can to soothe my dry skin — I use baby oil after the shower, am religious about using a humidifier at night, and slather myself with the thickest creams I can find before going to sleep. So when at my last visit, my dermatologist, Dr. Day, offered me a sample of Eucerin Calming Body Wash, I practically ripped it out of her hands.
The body wash is labeled as “Daily Shower Oil, mildly cleanses with omega oil for dry itchy skin.” And, that’s accurate -- as far as the label goes. It cleanses, though I wouldn’t use it after say, a day at the beach or a night out dancing. It also promises — and delivers — to sooth dry skin.
What the label doesn’t tell you? It has a slight fish-y odor. It’s not on par with opening a can of tuna, more like walking by your pet fish’s aquarium. But it is enough to turn me off the product. For now, I’m sticking with my favorite Dove Cream Oil Body Wash.
Do you have a favorite body wash for dry skin? Please share!

Definitely Johnsen & Johnsen Deep Hydrating Body Wash...the best!
L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil. It smells lovely and foams up nicely (though not as much as other body washes).
You're being polite about it smelling like walking into your pet fish's aquarium. It's more like walking into a fish market. Eucerin products are great, but eww this smells like fish.
I have used this product and discussed this with my dermatologist, a Dr. Petroff, Beachwood Ohio. She said it might have an odor to it, but it does not leave the odor on the skin. This product actually penetrates skin and replaces lipids and essential oils back into the skin~have yo tried to shave with it AWESOME~some days I don't need lotion afterwards! Wonderful!
