Review ZO Skin Health from Obagi

Thanks to our many years as a beauty editor, we’re pretty skeptical when it comes to cosmetic companies making claims about the latest and greatest anti-agers. (You know the ones that say they’ll make you look 10 years younger overnight or are Botox in a tube.) Well, after last night’s Total Beauty.com event with Dr. Obagi, we were convinced to try yet another new system, the Zo Skin Health.

There’s a good chance we were swayed to give it a go because Dr. Obagi could quite possibly be the best salesman on earth. His oratory skills rival Obama’s. We particularly liked when he said, “God doesn’t create ugly people. We’re all beautiful.”

His products are based on the idea that skin needs a workout to stay healthy. So, just like we need to go to the gym and eat healthfully, we need to exercise our skin. His products are designed to do that with Retinol to exercise it and peptides and vitamins A, C and E to nourish it.

We were given a Anti-Aging Jump Start Kit, which contains a Cleanse, Correct (essentially a serum), Stimulate (equivalent to a gel-based moisturizer, even if Dr. Obagi doesn’t like moisturizers) and Protect (a tinted SPF).

The idea is that the cleanser exfoliates and “wakens” skin, leaving it ready for the benefits of the serum and moisturizer.

So far, we used the system last night and this a.m. As Dr. Obagi promised, the products do tingle as we apply them—he says this is proof that they’re working. We do like that the cleanser has blue Vitamin-E beads that break open as you wash your face. We think that the tinted sunscreen is pure genius. We’ve used tinted moisturizers with SPF and love that this is the first tinted SPF (that we’ve heard of at least).

Check back in a week or so to see how we’re doing and if the set is worth $250. Available online at zoskinhealth.com and at Fred Segal and Nordstrom.

Chanel has tinted SPF as well but I like that Obagi's is a primer.

Thanks for reminding us about the Chanel tinted SPF. I think I blocked (no pun intended) it out because it's so thick--I hate it!

Interesting, glad to hear positive feedback on it. Dr. Obagi was a very interesting guy.

Thanks for coming to the event! Dr. Obagi was tickled by your Obama reference--he does, admittedly love a crowd! and he's passionate about skin health!
Please keep me posted on how you like the products. It takes about 4 weeks for the retinol in the Jumpstart Kit to convert to retinoic acid, completely re-awaken your skin cells so that they start rejuvenating the skin. Soon you'll be seeing great results!
Hope to see you again!

Jet Set Girls; I also have fair Irish skin, am using the ZO line, and loving it! When I want something moisturizing, I use the Daily Power Defense. You went to the beach?! I recently spent a few too many minutes in the sun without sunscreen and used their Growth Factor Serum right when I made it home. It helped me get rid of the wee pink burn, and the gel made my skin feel cooler.
(As for ruddy tone given to us by our ancestors - you'll need an IPL. That's my secret...)

I have used the cleanser and sunscreen- but what the kit is REALLY missing is ZO Skin Health’s exfoliating cleanser. I LOVE this product. It has done wonders for my skin, which is really sensitive and doesn't usually take well to exfoliating products. These products are so great.
