Maggie Gyllenhaal Rocks a Jumpsuit in London

True confession: We have a full on girl crush on Maggie Gyllenhaal. She has such an earthy, natural sexuality. We've followed her career eagerly from the surprisingly sweet Secretary to her heartbreaking turn in Sherrybaby. We tried to catch Dark Knight over the weekend, but it was sold out, even though we showed up 45 minutes before show time.

We also secretly want to own a jumpsuit, like this Stella McCartney one that Maggie wore at the Dark Knight premier in London. We picture ourselves dancing up a storm at Pure in Vegas (Hello! Jason Lewis was there last week) or just looking cool at the Soho House sipping martinis.

Our obsession started with this hot pink one that we saw at the Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection.

We also love the shorter versions like this one from Tart Daphne available at ShopBop.

In truth, we're not sure we're cool enough or tall enough to pull off this look. How fitting then that our idol Maggie Gyllenhaal rocked the look for us. For now, we'll continue to live vicariously through her!

Fake Eyelashes: Two Versions

We always love to treat ourselves and get our makeup done for our big nights out. No surprise that different makeup artists, depending on which brand they represent, create different looks.

For Annie's birthday in May, she went to the Laura Mercier Lash Bar at Bendel's to have the Corner Faux Eyelashes applied.

She told the makeup artist she didn't like heavy foundation or green eye shadow, which the makeup artist interpreted to mean she didn't like makeup. Annie spent the rest of the time trying to convince the makeup artist to use a heavier hand. Laura Mercier is best known for natural looking makeup and her tinted moisturizer is our daily standard (probably yours, too. Everyone loves the stuff.) Despite Annie's doubts, the result was fresh and glowing:

For her boyfriend's birthday in July, she knew she wanted a more dramatic, smokier look and knew that only MAC would do. She again opted for the half lash (MAC 20 Lash):

While her eyes stand out more, it was perhaps a little too much for a humid July night. (Hope had just gotten to town and didn't have enough time to get her makeup done.)

The lessons:
1. Decide which look you're going for and head to the counter that is better known for that look. When you want fake eyelashes, it does limit your options as not every cosmetic line carries them.

2. Be open to new looks. While Annie was close to throwing a tantrum at the Laura Mercier Counter, in retrospect the light handed makeup made her look younger.

3. Smoky eyes and humidity don't mix!

Want to see how we looked after a visit to the Bobbi Brown counter?

(And yes, Annie wore the same dress on both nights. It looked sexier in July with our neon Miu Miu shoes.)

Richard Chai at Target: Available Online

The Richard Chai collection is available online at Target.com today. The collection feels a little to '80s and boxy to us, so we may sit this one out. If we're missing something and you find any stellar pieces from the collection, let us know!

On Our Radar: Clift San Francisco

clift hotel entrance
Thank you Westin St. Francis for hosting us along with 1,000 other women for the BlogHer conference two weeks ago; but we really wish we stayed at the Clift. Recently renovated, the hotel is striking, both elegant and modern. The Clift is part of the fabulous Morgans Group, which includes the Delano Miami and the Mondrians in LA and Scottsdale.

We spent two of our three nights lounging in the Redwood Room (picture below). There was a line to get in; but it was easy to navigate (a long line of men is a sure sign they're looking for female patrons). The place was packed with an attractive mix of people, even the ever present bachelorette party (good spot if you're looking for a place to take your bride-to-be BFF).

Through the Redwood Room is the tasty Asia de Cuba restaurant where we've eaten in Scottsdale and NYC.

The Clift has what we look for in a hotel on our girls' trips: good location- it's downtown in Union Square, a great bar/lounge, and a quality restaurant.

Thanks to Lily, our fave Irish gal pal, for suggesting the Clift on our first night (but no thanks for the way we felt the next day); and thanks to our gorgeous beauty guru, Kristin, for the hospitality on night two.
