Bachelorette Party Ideas #21 - Newport, Rhode Island

A few years back, we joined in a friend of a friend's bachelorette party to Newport, Rhode Island. Newport is breathtakingly beautiful and is an easy drive for New Yorkers, Bostonians or anyone in between.

If headed for a bachelorette party, make the Viking Hotel your home base. It's within easy walking distance from the harbor and the Newport nightlife. Be sure to leave time for a massage or facial at the decadent Spa Terre. The hotel is offering a special 10% off the bill for groups of 10 or more. Request the 10% off promo when booking rooms.

Stop by the Clarke Cooke House for an all-in-one dining, drinking, dancing experience. Start in the the Candy Store on the Wharf Level of to bag yourself a yachtsman cooling off with a G&T before his next sailing. The Boom Boom Room in the basement is the place to get your groove on, then come midnight, head up the stairs to the SkyBar, which turns into a dance club.

We're also fans of the Black Pearl--nothing makes us happier than sipping Champagne and eating lobster on its terrace. To eat like a local, head to Brick Alley Pub for its endless salad bar.

Newport doesn't have much going on in the shopping front. Trust us--we were in and out of everystore along Thames Street and Bellevue Avenue last fall and came out empty handed. Instead, spend your days on the beach or touring the mansions along Cliff Walk, including the famed Vanderbilt home, The Breakers (below).

Or hit up a polo match at Glen Farm, every Saturday in June, July, August and September.

The town does get sleepy in the off months, so plan your bachelorette party for May through September.

  1. I stayed at Hotel Viking a few months ago with my boyfriend. I absolutely agree, it's the best hotel out there!

  2. A lot of people only focus on Newport when talking about RI, but Providence has a lot to offer too! I grew up in NY and yet I really love living here, even in comparison!

  4. Thanks for the post! I am helping plan an upcoming bachelorette party, and we are also staying at the Hotel Viking. Question -- was the 10% discount for 10 or more rooms? Or 10 or more people?

    Thanks!

  5. This was a couple of years ago so I doubt they have the same deal. You could contact the hotel and ask what they have available for this summer. Have a great time!
